medical and surgical services

Dermatology - A medical-surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair and nails. Pediatric to gereatric dermatology.

We are a surgical dermatology practice specializing in the diagnosis and removal of skin cancers. The three main forms of skin cancer are Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Malignant Melanoma.

Basal Cell Carcinomas and Squamous Cell Carcinomas are usually removed by Mohs' Surgery. This is a surgical treatment which gives a very high rate of cure. This procedure is performed in office under local anesthesia.

Malignant Melanoma, may be life-threatening if not treated early. Often, a diagnosis of melanoma results from a routine checkup or from a patient bringing a suspicious mole to a doctor's attention. The first sign of melanoma is usually a change in the size, shape, or color of a mole. Another symptom of melanoma is a change in how a mole feels; it can become tender, itchy, or hard. Melanoma may appear as a new mole. A chart is available to see what kinds of things to look for or show your doctor.
A. Asymmetry - Melanoma lesions are typically irregular in shape
B. Border - Melanoma lesions often have uneven borders
C. Color - Melanoma lesions often contain many shades of brown or black
D. Diameter - Melanoma lesions are often more than 5 millimeters in diameter

Recommended skin cancer screenings are as follows;
If you have a history of skin cancer, you need to be seen every 3-6 months.
If you do not have a history of skin cancer, we recommend a minimum yearly full body exam for skin cancer.
In either case, if you notice a suspicous lesion prior to recommended time, please call the office to be seen sooner.
